When and where can I register for the telc exam?

When do I have to be in the Perfect German Examination Center on the day of the exam and what do I have to bring with me?
After you have registered for the telc exam, you will receive a detailed schedule by email a few days before the exam.
IMPORTANT: Keep the whole day free!
- Please come to school on time on the day of the exam.
- You must have your photo ID or passport with you.

Who is the telc C1 General Examination for?
The telc C1 general exam is aimed at working people who have a very advanced level of knowledge of German and would like to obtain proof of language proficiency. The telc Deutsch C1 exam is particularly suitable for academics who have already studied in their home country and would like to work in Germany. Important: This exam is not suitable for applicants who need a special language certificate for study admission (e.g. telc C1 Hochschule exam).

What is the telc C1 general exam?
The telc C1 General Examination is an internationally recognized language test that tests general language skills at level C1.

How is the telc Deutsch C1 Allgemein language test structured?
The telc C1 general exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 3 hours and 40 minutes. (including a 20 minute break)
- Reading comprehension and language modules (grammar, vocabulary, spelling): 90 minutes
- Break: 20 minutes
- Listening comprehension: 40 minutes
- Written expression: 70 minutes
The oral exam lasts approx. 16-21 minutes (after 20 minutes of preparation) and usually takes place on the same day.

Can I use a dictionary at telc Deutsch C1 Allgemeine?
No.

How is the exam graded?
The exam is passed if at least 60% are achieved in both the written and the oral part. That means you have to reach at least 128 points . This corresponds to 99 points in the written test and 29 points in the oral test.

When and how will I receive my telc certificate?
You will usually receive your certificate approximately 4–6 weeks after the exam date, once the evaluation by telc has been completed.
The certificate will be provided digitally as a PDF by e-mail. You can save it, forward it or print it out if needed. -
How long is my telc certificate valid?
Your certificate for a passed telc exam is valid indefinitely.

Can I repeat the exam?
Yes. You can retake the telc C1 exam as many times as you wish.
If you have only failed the oral exam or only the written exam (subtests 1–4), you only need to retake the respective part of the exam.
